- Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act of 2009 (FERA)Tightened protections for qui tam relators who have brought action. This law expanded protections to those who file, plan to file, never file or who refuse to participate in illegal activities. Additionally, this law protects both family and colleagues of a whistleblower. This law also allows for protections for contractors. These enhancements were made because of a series of cases that fell on the side of the corporations.
- Turner v. Memorial Medical CenterA case evaluating whether retaliation took place after an employee is fired for registering a concern with the Joint Commission.
- Tanay v. Encore Healthcare LLCA case that places the onus on the legislative branch to evaluate its priority in regard to whether patient safety and quality within the health care system outweighs the employer rights to hire and fire employees at-will.
