Eastman House is also one of the oldest film archives in the United States and is now considered to be among the top cinematic collections worldwide. Our motion picture archives hold more than 25,000 film titles produced between 1894 and the present.

Summary: While the collection includes copies of material dating from the beginnings of film animation at the end of the nineteenth century, original material is concentrated in the late 1970s and the 1980s. The collection's emphasis is not on original material, though, but in providing sources for the history of film animation through reproduction of early material and secondary sources in an accessible format. The largest amount of both documentary and graphic materials in the collection relate to Walt Disney and his studio and to Canemaker's own extensive creative activity.
Historical Note: John Canemaker (b. 1943) is an internationally recognized animator, animation historian, teacher and lecturer. He has been a Guest Fellow at Yale University and teaches film animation at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University.

The mission is to acquire, preserve, document, and promote academic film by providing an archive, resource, and forum for continuing scholarly advancement and public exhibition. WCFTR owns more than 300 manuscript collections, 15,000 motion pictures and television shows, 2,000,000 still photographs, and several thousand sound recordings.

The Steven Spielberg Film and Video Archive of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is a major repository for moving images pertaining to the Holocaust and related topics in European history. The collection currently comprises 985 hours of archival footage. Additional materials are regularly acquired from sources throughout the world. The majority of the materials originated between 1930 and 1945.

PFA is home to the largest collection of Japanese films outside of Japan, as well as impressive gatherings of Soviet silents, West Coast avant-garde cinema, seminal video art, rare animation, Eastern European and Central Asian productions, and international classics. This gift of internationally important, irreplaceable, and unique newsreel footage was the starting point for what has become one of the most significant academically housed newsfilm libraries in the United States.

offered various programs and services such as filmmaking workshops, equipment access-which includes facilities for editing, screening and shooting. In addition, the Millennium has continuously presented ongoing film-talks and screenings in its Personal Cinema Series. This consists of mostly one-person film/video programs with the artists present to engage in a dialogue with the audience. We have always made room for regular open screenings in our schedule, so as to provide a public forum for younger artists and students. These programs became more viable and effective as we moved into a much larger space in 1975.
