REA 010/014: Information Literacy/Research Starters

What's in this Guide

This guide will help you to find background information to explore the biographical, historical, or current topics you will research for class. Finding and reading background information such as an article from an encyclopedia, is an important habit, as this information provides the history of a topic along with context and an overview. Background information is helpful to students, too, because it offers ways to narrow a topic for a writing assignment such as an argumentative paper. This is a skill that students will practice in many college classes. Always begin research by reading background information on your topic!
